Berger Responds to SBOE Decision

in News | Comments (0)

Raleigh, N.C. – Senate Republican Leader Phil Berger (R-Rockingham) issued a statement in response to the State Board of Elections’ decision after conducting hearings regarding former Governor Mike Easley’s administration and campaigns.

“I applaud the State Board of Elections for their service and investigation into the former Governor’s administration and campaigns.  Their suggestions about campaign finance reform are welcome as Senate Republicans will soon offer comprehensive legislation to address corruption in campaigns.  The $100,000 levied against the Mike Easley Committee and referral of evidence to the Wake County District Attorney were necessary and appropriate steps to take.  The information uncovered in these hearings will undoubtedly be helpful as state and federal authorities continue their investigations.  At some point the people of North Carolina will have the full truth about this sad episode.”

Berger: Perdue Should Ask DOT Board Member to Step Aside

in News | Comments (0)

RALEIGH, N.C. – As a result of testimony in this week’s Board of Elections’ hearings, Senate Republican Leader Phil Berger called on Governor Perdue to ask Board of Transportation Member Lanny Wilson to recuse himself from consideration of matters before the Board of Transportation during the course of the state and federal investigations into former Governor Mike Easley’s administration and campaigns.  From press reports of testimony presented on Tuesday, Wilson’s conduct may not have complied with an executive order signed earlier this year by Governor Perdue tightening ethics standards on Board of Transportation members.  (EO 2 Transportation Reform, 1/12/09)  Wilson served as a fundraiser for both the Easley and Perdue campaigns and was subsequently appointed to the Board of Transportation by both.

Pelosi still fighting to ram so-called “public option” through Congress

October 23, 2009 in News | Comments (0)

According to The Hill, Democrat House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is still intent on pushing a healthcare bill with a so-called “public option” through Congress.  We believe that today’s so-called public option is likely tomorrow’s inefficient, ineffective government monopoly.

The question for citizens of southeastern North Carolina is this:  will Congressman Mike McIntyre cave under the weight of Speaker Pelosi’s pressure?
