Forum featuring Republican candidates for Congress set for Tuesday, Apr. 6 in Whiteville

WHITEVILLE, NC – The N.C. 7th Congressional District Republican Party is teaming up with the Columbus County Republican Party to sponsor a candidates’ forum on Tuesday, Apr. 6, 2010 at 7 p.m. at the Columbus County Courthouse, located at 100 Courthouse Square in Whiteville.  The forum will feature Republican candidates for Congress in the 7th Congressional District.  Republicans and unaffiliated voters are eligible to vote in the Republican primary, which will be held Tuesday, May. 4

Berger Urges Council of State to Protect Citizens’ Rights

RALEIGH, N.C. – Senate Republican Leader Phil Berger (R-Rockingham) sent a letter to each member of the Council of State today urging them to support Cherie Berry’s motion to discuss at their next meeting joining litigation thirteen other Attorneys General across the country have initiated by filing a lawsuit to challenge the constitutionality of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act.  The constitutional challenge rests on the argument that the individual mandate by the federal government to citizens forcing them to purchase health care is an unconstitutional overreach of the authority granted to the federal government by the Commerce Clause.

GOP candidates’ forum in Duplin County attracts strong crowd; candidates for N.C. Senate & 7th District Congress debate the issues

dsc02956WALLACE, N.C. – A forum featuring Republican candidates for N.C. Senate and the 7th Congressional District attracted a strong crowd in Duplin County yesterday.  N.C. Senate candidates Brent Jackson and Chris Humphrey debated the issues for 30 minutes, while 7th Congressional District candidates Will Breazeale, Randy Crow and Ilario Pantano debated for an hour.  The candidates are competing in the May 4 Republican Primary.

Berger Calls on Perdue to Protect Citizens’ Rights; Urges Her to Support Health Care Protection Act

RALEIGH, N.C. – Senate Republican Leader Phil Berger (R-Rockingham) sent a letter to Governor Perdue today urging her to support the Health Care Protection Act which legislative Republicans will file in the short session of the General Assembly.  The Health Care Protection Act will protect citizens’ rights to make their own health care decisions by exempting them from federal mandates to purchase health insurance that are a part of the new federal health care law and also exempting North Carolinians from any penalties they would face by refusing to purchase health insurance.
